Synthetic or Natural Fragrance ?

Filed under: Perfume Articles — admin @ 8:17 pm

Have you ever thought about your fragrance ingredients ? Synthetic or Natural ?

Well, there’s nothing wrong about both and it’s good to know that synthetics are nothing new in perfume industry. They’ve been around since 19th century, for example Chanel Number 5 - classic has 250 natural and synthetic ingredients, including very popular - aldehyde. One of the most commonly used perfume ingredients these days - gardenia loses its natural scent when distilled, so fake replica is always in use.

ARE SYNTHETIC INGREDIENTS A COMMON THING IN TODAY’S PERFUMERY ?

We found “synthetic” in perfume world is absolutely normal, it’s just a shortcut when creating perfect scent. Using synthetics helps to preserve our Planet’s natural resources. Did you know that it takes one ton of jasmine to make one kilogram of jasmine concrete which costs about $8000 per kilogram ?

HOW NATURAL PERFUME DIFFERS ?

All natural fragrances have complexity and allure that’s distinctive, so the process of creating desired scent is much longer. Once person finds their true natural scent, it’s hooked to it forever. These scents are just so seductive, beautiful and luxurious and that’s why perfumers pride themselves on the process of creating and hand-picking ingredients.

HOW LONG CAN  SYNTHETIC AND NATURAL FRAGRANCE SIT  ON THE SHELVES?

Synthetic:  the typical shelf live of synthetic scents is two years due to natural oxidization process.

Natural: Natural perfumes last for a much shorter amount of time - around one year because of less preservative ingredients.
