Home Perfumery

Filed under: Perfume Articles — admin @ 7:20 pm

Having your own home perfumery is not as difficult as it sounds. You can start today to include a hobby of perfume making in your own home, if you choose to add essential oils to your knowledgebase. Essential oils are very concentrated oils distilled from the plants and herbs that have specific properties and scents. Usually only a few drops in carrier oil, like sunflower or jojoba oil, are needed to create scented oil. This can be used in place of perfumes, in the bath, in potpourri. If you get a scent diffuser, you can even put drops of the essential oil onto a ceramic ring and place it on an incandescent light bulb to heat it and disperse the fragrance throughout and entire room.

While you can make your own essential oils, distilling them is probably not worth your while. In a home perfumery, you will want to include many different essential oils and you can buy them already distilled in a natural health food store or online. The purchase will last a very long time considering that you are only a few drops (sometimes 10 or 12 drops) for each fragrance you create. They store very well in a cupboard and don’t require refrigeration.

You will want to research the different properties of the essential oils to make perfumes that not only delight the nose but can also produce some mood-enhancing effects. This will make it easier for you to know when to use lavender oil rather than rosemary oil, for instance. Lavender depresses the nerves while rosemary invigorates the mind. Knowing what the benefits are of each oil can help you to produce combinations that are very appealing and unique to you. Keep in mind that there is ample information on different oil combinations that make pleasing scents on the web too.
